La Mariana (Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, USA)
The island of Oahu is awash in tiki bars. There are about 20 or so when you do a Google search so selecting the stop for this leg of the Tiki Tour could have been difficult. (We like tiki bars but there is such a thing as too much of a good thing). We decided the best decision was to take in a spot the was highlighted by Anthony Bourdain on No Reservations.
That spot is the La Mariana Sailing Club Restaurant and Bar. Nope, tiki isn't in the name, but this place is defiantly tops for the tiki feel. Parking is tight so be prepared to walk a tad to get there, or better yet..if you have a boat, sail on up to the slip.
The place is covered in string lights, lit glass buoys, and glowing pufferfish. Ceiling chandeliers are even made from shells. Founded in 1957, this tiki bar is the real deal and to enter you feel transported back in time to the tiki heyday. The place is big, so you you may have to wait a tad, but it's stunning and every view gives you something new to see. Besides, you're on island time now so...no worries.
Aside from the interior decor, La Mariana boasts an amazing view from its outdoor seating. Not a bad seat in the house! With it's chill vibe and oceanfront views, I'd put La Mariana easily among the top tiki bars we've visited on the tour.

Wanting to compare Mai Tais between bars...Clint ordered one. La Mariana doesn't skimp on the rum that's for sure. His cocktail was strong and delicious.
I'm always onthe lookout for something new, but coconut based most days so I had the Lava Flow. Think Pina Colada meets strawberry and that about sums it up. A pretty drink and tasty. Hawaii was experiencing an eruption on the big island while we were there so this seemed a fitting tribute to Pele.
