The Tiki Room (Stockholm, Sweden)
We were sure if we’d manage a stop on the Tiki Tour during our visit to Stockholm this year. When we’d first looked we hadn’t seen any. Tiki seems to be more of an American thing having been “born” in Los Angels in the 1930s. However right before the trip we found a Tiki Bar on Yelp. And since the Tiki tour rules state if there’s a tiki bar within reasonable distance of a trip, you must visit...we did.
Stockholm, as of 2019, has a single bar called The Tiki Room. The address is Birkagatan 10 and it's actually located below the Mellow Bar.
We were there on a Monday so the place was pretty dead, but the atmosphere was straight up tiki. The bar was visible immediately upon descending the staircase and two rooms for drinking and socializing were off to the right.
Here's a peak inside their menu..It's in Swedish, which is strikingly similar to English, but they offered traditional tiki drinks. So if you know the names, you'll know what you are getting in advance. They did offer a few libations we were unfamiliar with so we gave them a try.
We ordered a "Coconaut" (rum, lime juice, and coconut rum) credited to Jeff Berrey and a "Tower Isle (creme de cacao, two types of rum, and a touch of cream) reportedly from a 1956 recipe. Both were tasty.
No tiki mugs for sale as of 2019.
